Situated on the Teakle property in Port Lincoln, 2 kilometres from the foreshore, with 150 meters elevation. The soils are rich combination of sandy loam topsoil overlying a friable red-brown clay loam subsoil. The moderately warm summer temperatures and maritime breeze allow perfect ripening conditions in the vineyard. The long sunshine hour days encourage even ripening of the grapes, while the gentle breeze helps cool the bunches, retaining the beautiful natural acidity.
The Riesling was handpicked on the 6th March 2019, into small picking bins and transported to Clare in a refrigerated truck, to O’Leary Walker Winery. The fruit was crushed and destemmed into a membrane press to separate the skins and seeds from the juice. The juice was then transferred to a stainless steel tank and allowed to cold settle for 5 days before being racked off lees and warmed to 14 degrees C where alcoholic fermentation was commenced with a neutral white wine yeast. The fermentation took 12 days to complete, then the wine was heat and cold stabilised, racked and filtered, before being bottled in May 2019.
Riesling is all about tension and balance, and this wine is no exception. It is packed with flavour and aromatics, and has a freshness and purity that speaks of the soils and region. The palate has lemon and lime citrus, with floral notes, and has a typical delicacy to it. The wine has a long finish with minerality, lemon rind and talc. Match with all seafood particularly shellfish and oysters, however the tight fresh acidity also matches well to richer dishes.
