James Halliday Wine Companion Cellaring Selections 2020

The March 2020 release of the James Halliday Wine Companion Cellaring Selections has seen two Peter Teakle Estate Wines awarded over 90 points.
The 2017 Estate Shiraz received 94 points from the judging panel. Their description of our hand-picked Estate Shiraz was “The medium to full-bodied palate offers dark/black fruits in profusion, then backs off on the airy finish. It all works well.”

Our 2018 Estate Merlot was awarded 93 points and was the only Merlot to be featured in the companion. The judging panel called it “an elegant wine that has been able to absorb the high oak level.”

Chief Winemaker Liz Heidenreich said “The team at Peter Teakle’s have long considered the vineyards and region to be one that can produce excellent wines. Having these points awarded by James Halliday helps us convey this message further and will give people new to the brand and wines from this region confidence to try these wines. I am sure they won’t be disappointed. Both of these wines were made at O’Leary Walker in the Clare Valley, prior to the completion of the winery in Port Lincoln. Credit also needs to go to former Tasmanian Viticulturist, Andrew Blackberry, our vineyard manager who has transformed these vineyards into premium, high quality producing vines.”

It is not our first appearance in the James Halliday Wine Companion since Peter Teakle Wines launched in 2017. We have previously received 94 points for our 2017 Estate Riesling and 90 points for the 2017 Estate Sauvignon Blanc Semillon.

Peter Teakle Wines clearly has the right combination of elevation, rich soil, moderate summer temperatures and maritime breezes, to continue to impress and excite wine drinkers across Australia.
