ATTRIBUTES

The 2023 Killer White Riesling showcases a bright, fresh acidity that enlivens the palate. Aromas of orange blossom mingle with notes of Bickford’s lime and lemon peel. This Riesling is ready to enjoy now, offering a youthful and vibrant character. However, its natural acidity ensures that it will remain fresh for several years, gradually developing toasty, buttery notes over the next 5-10 years. Vegan-friendly.

WINEMAKING

Harvested in the early hours of March 21st using our Pellenc Grape Harvester, the 2023 Riesling was crafted in our state-of-the-art winery, which was recognized with the Best Building Excellence Award in the $2-5 million category at The Master Builders SA Awards in 2019.

The 2023 growing season provided ideal conditions, with minimal disease pressure and a lengthy ripening period. Newly planted Riesling vines from 2021 contributed a small yet promising yield, enhancing the wine’s flavor profile.

Harvesting in the cool morning hours ensured the grapes arrived at the winery cold and fresh, naturally preserving them from oxidation. After being gently crushed and destemmed, the fruit was pressed in a membrane bag press. The juice was cold-settled in stainless steel tanks for 12 days before being racked off the solids, warmed, and inoculated with QA23, a neutral dry wine yeast, to begin fermentation. The fermentation process took 11 days, after which the wine was settled, stabilized, clarified, and filtered before being bottled in June 2023.

VINEYARDS

Our Riesling is grown on the Teakle property in Port Lincoln, located 2 kilometers from the foreshore, at an elevation of 150 meters. The vineyard's soil is a rich blend of sandy loam topsoil over a friable red-brown clay loam subsoil. The moderately warm summer temperatures, combined with a refreshing maritime breeze, create ideal ripening conditions. Extended sunshine hours ensure even grape maturation, while the gentle breezes help cool the bunches, preserving the wine's beautiful natural acidity.
