Liz Heidenreich joins Peter Teakle Wines
Introducing to you our Head Winemaker, Liz Heidenreich.
Liz graduated from Adelaide University with an Oenology degree. Following the completion of her studies, Liz worked with some worldclass wineries including; Wolf Blass in the Barossa Valley, Wirra Wirra in McLaren Vale and more recently Liz was the Chief Wine Maker at Sevenhill Cellars in the Clare Valley before commencing her time with Peter Teakle Wines. Liz also has her own wine label, Liz Heidenreich Wines, where she sources fruit from a vineyard in Vine Vale in the Barossa Valley which her grandfather planted back in 1936 and her Uncle owns these vineyards today.
Liz's association to Peter Teakle Wines occurred through her husband, David O'Leary from O'Leary Walker Wines in the Clare Valley. A few years ago the grapes from Peter Teakle Wines were taken from Port Lincoln to the Clare Valley and were crushed and processed by David at O'Leary Walker Wines. As the winemaking side of things started to grow for us it was clear that it required a head winemaker to manage the winemaking and that brings us to today.
Liz brings a huge wealth of experience and knowledge to Peter Teakle Wines and it's been evident in the Halliday Wine Companion Cellaring Selections that has recently seen two of our Estate Wines awarded over 90 points with our 2017 Estate Shiraz receiving 94 points and our 2018 Merlot receiving 93 points from the judging panel. 🍷
As a former nurse, Liz decided to pursue her interest in wine by returning to study as a post-graduate student at the University of Adelaide. A naturally instinctive winemaker, she places a high value on working with quality fruit and attention to detail as key requirements for creating outstanding wine.
Liz previously worked at Sevenhill Winery, for 14 years and prior to this, undertook vintages at Wirra Wirra in McLaren Vale and at Sir Cliff Richard’s estate in Portugal for 4 vintages. In addition to her work at Sevenhill, Liz has judged extensively at wine shows, including the Royal Adelaide Wine Show, Clare Regional Wine Show and the Barossa Wine Show. She is a member of the Clare Valley Winemakers Inc executive and she is the CVWI’s regional representative on the South Australian Wine Industry Association’s Executive Committee.
